Literally the ‘Path of Resistance’ in Kharaki, Shura Jashi is a small but fervent faith deeply entrenched in the wastes of Kharak with other adherents scattered around the world. It holds that there is no Prophet of the Godhead but The Founder (an ancient religious icon shared with Shura Sumi and Shura Nari), and sees The Unifier as mislead at best and false at worst. Shura Jashi is highly martial and proselyte, defining itself largely as the defense and expansion of its sole Prophet’s teachings against the corruption of unenlightened cultures and weakness of the human heart. Leadership and distinction are earned through the blood of the Prophet or the blood of his enemies.
The followers of Shura Jashi hold the dubious honor of responsibility for the majority of terrorist attacks, insurgent actions, and protests inside Kharak, Jah, and other Unity territory throughout the Era of Communication. While the Unity does not recognize or take note of religious preferences in any other situation, it considers practice of Shura Jashi active support of a terrorist network, a capital offense the government occasionally chooses to ignore to de-escalate political tensions. To many followers in the region, the Unity represents a mortal threat to their way of life (and just life for that matter), inspiring an active religious resistance that has never turned down an opportunity to trade blows literal and metaphoric. Many of the Jahangi soldiers, administrators, and officers who defected and continued to fight after their nation’s surrender in The Reformation War were devotees of Shura Jashi, further adding to the faith’s already infamous image.
It is worth mentioning that Shura Jashi is not an inherently violent religion. Many practitioners exist in less tumultuous lands (and even inside Kharak) who simply preach their faith and do charitable works to combat what they see as corrupting influences or avenues that encourage their fellow man to give into their weakness. Most live humble or ascetic lives and place extreme importance on independence. Shura Jashi followers also hold lineage in extremely high regard, and many of Arcatia’s greatest historians and genealogists are followers of this ancient, proud faith.
